CMS College, Kottayam  which is one of the pioneering institutions of higher education in India was founded in 1817 by the Church Missionary Society for Africa and the East (fondly called as the CMS) .  The College holds a unique status in the history of India for being the first college completing a continuous journey of more than 200 years. As an institution   aimed to set models in higher education , CMS College is committed to maintain high standards in academic transaction and  move towards excellence in Research .

Department of Mathematics

The department of Mathematics, came in to being in 1950 when the  CMS College became a first grade  College and Mathematics was the first science subject  in which a Degree course was offered . A decade later, the M.Sc  course was started and it was upgraded to the status of an approved research centre of the Mahatma Gandhi University during the academic year 2008 – 09. The  “Center For Research in Mathematics ”  was inaugurated by Dr. Jancy James, honorable Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University in the presence of world renowned physicist Prof (Dr.) E. C. G. Sudarshan on 04 July 2008. The thrust area of research is “ Stochastic Modelling Analysis and Applications”.
